Arkansas is
located in the southeastern United States and is known as the
natural state for its picturesque scenic beauty. It
contains over 600,000
acres of lakes and 9,700 miles of streams and rivers. Arkansas
contains six national park sites, two-and-a half million acres of
national forests, seven national scenic byways, three state scenic
byways, and 50 state parks. |

Since the 1830s the area
now known as Hot Springs National Park has bathed notables as

Springs is located an hour’s drive southwest of Little Rock,
Arkansas’ capital city, via interstate 30. Nestled in the Ouachita
Mountains, Hot springs showcases some of the most beautiful

level at Hot Springs Mountain Tower, which overlooks 140 miles of
Ouachita Mountain scenery. Stroll along 210 majestic acres of flora
and foliage at Garvan Woodland Gardens on Lake Hamilton. The
national Park Aquarium houses the state’s largest fish and reptile
exhibit. Learn about the nation’s most notorious mobsters and their
Spa City exploits at The Gangster Museum of America. The Josephine
Tussaud Wax Museum, Hot Springs Duck Tours, Bathhouse Row and Belle

As a predominantly agricultural state in the past, Arkansas has
been successful in effecting a more favorable balance of
industrial and agricultural production.

Agriculture
Arkansas produces all crops normally grown in the temperate zone
and, with the exception of citrus fruits, grows practically every
crop produced in the United States. Arkansas ranks 14th among states
in cash receipts from farm marketings, with a total of 4,973,164
harvested acres. Nationally, Arkansas is #1 in rice and poultry
production; #5 in sorghum, grain; #6 in cotton and #8 in soybeans
and grapes. |

Banking/Shopping
The United States
currency is the U.S. Dollar. Banks are open 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Monday-Friday and Saturday 9:00 a.m.-noon (12:00 p.m.). There are
many ATM machines located at banks and at the conference center.
Visa or MasterCards are widely accepted in hotels, restaurants and
shops. Shopping hours are usually 10:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m.

in the United States is 110 volts. A converter is suggested for
international attendees.

Climate
Hot Springs has
four distinct seasons, all generally mild. Average rainfall is 54
inches a year, with the heaviest rainfall in April and May. The
average temperature is 60 degrees Fahrenheit, and the average low is
40 degrees Fahrenheit. |

What To Wear
Lightweight
clothing and comfortable walking shoes are recommended. A sweater or
light jacket may be needed in the evenings. Rainfall is likely in
April, so an umbrella and raincoat are suggested. |

passport. Citizens of some countries may also require a visa.
